Chapter 3 - Medical

Seniors in Singapore have funds in their Central Provident Fund (CPF) account accumulated from monthly deductions from their salary. Such savings are for your use when you retire at 62. Its use has been widened to allow you to buy a home, and to invest in shares and additional properties.

At 55, you can withdraw all but leave a CPF Minimum Sum of $94,000 (from 1 July 2007) and a Medisave Minimum Sum of $28,000 (from 1 July 2007). The former will release to you a monthly allowance when you hit 62, until your estimated demise at age 82, while the latter is to meet your medical bills. You may choose to reduce the CPF Minimum Sum (so that you can withdraw a larger sum at 55 for investment, like starting a business) by pledging your home.

You MUST read all the following as there is too much to be easily summarised here.

On reaching 55 , and A Guide to CPF Minimum Sum.
Understanding Medisave and Medishield , A Guide to Medisave, and A Guide to Medishield.
A Guide to Eldershield, and additional information on Eldershield.
